Trophies, pursuit races and annual awards
Most special races are held on the Monday of Bank Holiday weekends with prizes/trophies to be won on most occasions - see the Calendar & Notice Board for details.
Special Races
Easter Trophy
Three Allcomer sprint races, all to count.
- First start: 13:00
- Second start: 14:30
- Third start: 16:00
- Race duration: Approx 45 min for mid fleet boats
Charity Regatta
Format as Easter Trophy.
Asymmetric Special
Asymmetric special racing comprising a single series.
- Races: 4 races (2 sets of 2 back to back)
- Start: Allcomers start
- Course: Windward leeward
- Results to count: One more than half rounded down (e.g. 3 in a 4 race series)
Scott Wheel Pursuit
Boat/helm combinations are given a personal handicap (instead of PY handicap) based on past performance.
- Scratch start: Optimist at 13:30
- Finish: As near as possible to 16:15 (165 minutes after scratch start)
- Aim: All boats sail a time equal to 10% of their personal handicap in minutes
Fleet captains advise suitable handicaps; race staff decision is final.
Eight Hour Team Race
An 8 hour Allcomers Team race sailed in Illusions (adults) and RS Fevas (juniors).
- Start: 13:30
- Duration: 8 hours
- Requirement: Helmsmen and crews must be changed during the race
Details will be announced in good time.
Rivals Cup
A team pursuit race between fleets.
- Start: 11:00 with staggered starts
- Aim: All boats sail a time equal to 5% of their PY handicap in minutes
- Teams: Fleet captains organise teams of three boats per class
George Finch Pursuit
Pursuit race with staggered starts based on PY handicap.
- Start: Optimists at 13:30, other boats before or after
- Finish: As near as possible to 16:15 (165 minutes after Optimist start)
- Aim: All boats sail a time equal to 10% of their PY handicap in minutes
- Winner: First across the finish line
Anniversary Cup Pursuit
Pursuit race format, same as George Finch Pursuit.
- Start: Optimists at 13:30, staggered starts
- Finish: As near as possible to 16:15
- Winner: First across the finish line
Kay Ward Trophy / Youth Regatta
3 Allcomers races for Club Members - Helmsmen and Crews of 18 and under on the day of the race.
Races follow the same format as the Easter Trophy.
Edgar Cooper Tankards
A long duration Allcomers race.
- Start: 14:00
- Aim: Bulk of fleet (PY around 1150) finishing around 16:00
Annual Awards
Crews Cup
Awarded to the crew scoring the most points throughout the season.
Endeavour Trophy
Awarded to the most improved sailor of the season.
Mary Perkins Trophy
Awarded to the most improved junior sailor of the season.
Starting Gun Trophy
Awarded to the sailor who has started in the greatest number of starts, but who did not win a series.
Blatherwycke Trophy
Awarded to the member who has made the greatest contribution to the club over the previous year.
Ed the Duck Trophy
Awarded to the member who has made the greatest howler at the club over the previous year.
Sailor of the Year
Nominated by the previous year's holder to the sailor who has shown the greatest consistency and seamanship over the year.
